3 years ago this week we opened Feathers and Fur f 3 years ago this week we opened Feathers and Fur falconry centre at Moss End garden village to the public. After what was the hardest 6 months building a centre from scratch and then a year basically surviving the wait for planning and a licence, we where literally on the last few pennies when we where able to open the gates. What a amazing 3 years it’s been. The thank yous to everyone that got us here are from our hearts, from the donations to support the build, the hands that helped to build, the hearts that kept us up to every single person that has walked in our gates to see our beautiful birds. Thank you xxxxxx

***PLEASE NOTE *** Please do remember before you visit our beautiful centre that Avian Influenza (bird flu) is very much on the rise, very serious and could cost the lives of our birds. PLEASE DO NOT WEAR SHOES THAT YOU HAVE WORN NEAR RIVERS, LAKES OR THE SEA SIDE IN THE PREVIOUS 48 HOURS when visiting the centre. Everyone will need to walk over our disinfectant mats before entering the centre so we recommend waterproof shoes and to use the hand gel provided too. We apologies for any inconvenience however the health of our birds is our only concern.
10 years of being my right hand woman. I love you 10 years of being my right hand woman. I love you so much and without you feathers and fur falconry would still be a hobby business and I would have many more grey hairs and wrinkles!!! You bring passion, knowledge, wonder and awe (usually at small mushrooms and insects in the flying field!!) along with a steady mind, calm and a wonderful way with birds and customers and all that come to visit the birds. I honestly couldn’t manage without you. Thank you so much for being brave that first day and coming to volunteer, it truly changed my life and I hope feathers and fur has done the same to you. Please join me in saying thank you to Olivia for being part of feathers and fur for 10 years and here is to many more xxxx
Wish I had a proper camera!!! Photos from today’ Wish I had a proper camera!!! Photos from today’s Photography Session, taken on my iPhone, obviously the photographers ones were much better!!! Love these sessions as the birds look amazing.
Today the customers met Pip the little owl, Bailey the barn owl, Ash the tawny owl, Mouse the buzzard, Nala the kestrel, Milo the Harris hawk, Gimli the snowy owl and Elvis the Raven. What a morning.
How beautiful is Arya? Swinging the lure is one of How beautiful is Arya? Swinging the lure is one of Sadie’s absolute favourite parts of flying birds. The speed and concentration needed are amazing.

Arya, our Peregrine x Lanner Falcon, twists and turns on a sixpence with her long tail and long wings passing within inches of customers.
If you want to come and watch Arya she flies as part of our winter half day hands on session.
All our sessions are listed on our website and make amazing gifts for your loved ones (or yourself!!)

🎃 Happy Halloween!! 🎃 🧟‍♀️ We love 🎃 Happy Halloween!! 🎃

🧟‍♀️ We love Halloween here at the centre and what better way to spend the spookiest day of the year than with some of the 'spookiest' birds of all.. owls and ravens!

Here's a few facts to celebrate these two classic symbols of Halloween

👻 The image of a ghost as a white sheet with big black eyes is thought to be based on a Barn Owl thanks to their shrieking call and eerie silent flight!

👻 Ravens have long been associated with mystery, magic and death. Due to their diet of carrion, ravens were often seen on battlefields eating the dead so came to represent bad omens and harbingers of doom!

👻 Witches have always been closely associated with owls. Owls are thought to be the form a witch takes in order to travel and act as messengers from the underworld

👻 Many myths and legends see ravens as messengers or delivers of prophecy. Their believed ability to predict the future has lead to them being strongly associated with magic and the occult. The Norse god Odin had two messenger ravens symbolising thought and memory, hinting at the birds extreme intelligence
