Today is #loveyourpetsday , since the birds are my Today is #loveyourpetsday , since the birds are my work team I thought you would like to meet my pets!!!
Beth is my 9 year old Labrador, it’s actually her Birthday today!!! She lives for food, back scratches, swimming and the sofa and hates fireworks and things in her bed.
Tilly is a cross between a spaniel and a Weimaraner (happy accident) and is 2 years old. She loves her mum (me), running around like mad thing and looking out the window. She dislikes sharing her toys and being moved when she has stolen your seat on the sofa!!
Yesterday we stopped to help a family of geese! It Yesterday we stopped to help a family of geese! It was manic, resulting in a traffic jam, me sliding down a ditch to get a gosling that had been left behind, Sadie getting permission from a land owner to run around reuniting the family of 7 and a scratched cornea (on my part) thanks to a lovely holly branch but was worth it!!!
Did you know this about the Birds???? So over th Did you know this about the Birds????

So over the past few weeks we have had lots of new followers and I thought I would take a few posts to introduce ourselves to everyone with 5 quick key facts about the business, Sadie, Olivia, and the Birds.

So todays post is about the most important members of our team, the Birds.

1 - The majority of our birds are British (17 out of 23). This is because I think it’s important to know and love what is on your door step in terms of conservation and protecting our environment.

2 - Our oldest bird is Billie Jean (26 years old), she is a European Eagle Owl and is our leading lady in our Hands on Sessions. Sadie actually already had Billie before she started Feathers and Fur. Billie spent the first 15 years of her life in a breeding aviary but never produced young.

3 - The prize for most dramatic hatching definitely goes to Rossi, who didn’t want to hatch by herself and needed help. It took 5 hours in total for Sadie and Jamie to peel her from her shell. Her mum is Alice our second oldest bird, who is also mum to Milo.

4 - Charlie our Indian Eagle Owl is the GRUMPY pants of the flock, so much so that Olivia is not allowed near her when she is flying nor are any of the volunteers allowed in her aviary!!!!

5 - Bailey is the cheeky one, especially in spring time and has appeared many times in our stories. It is a right of passage for our volunteers to have their heads christened !

So I hope you have enjoyed this post, if you have any questions about us then please do pop them in the comments. !!!

So over the past few weeks we have had lots of new followers and I thought I would take a few posts to introduce ourselves to everyone with 6 quick key facts about the business, Sadie, Olivia, and the Birds.

So todays post is about Olivia our Assistant Falconer.

1. My love of animals started really early and never went away! My family nurtured it and I have always cared for and loved every creature. Don't tell the birds though but I am secretly a mammal girl at heart! Mammals were my first love (badgers are the greatest animal in the world) and birds are quite a new obsession for me. I started in animal behaviour (in fact, I would have been a psychologist if I didn't go down the animal route) before moving into conservation and I have worked with a variety of species from exotic mammals, reptiles, pets, livestock and of course birds.

2. I have always had animals in the house and especially love rescuing hamsters but I currently share my home with my two gorgeous pups Millie and Dusty, two beautiful bunnies Elsa and Indie and two cheeky guinea pigs Nibs and Tootles.

3. I am a huge nerd! (I do have a Snowy Owl named after a Lord of the Rings character!!) I adore Harry Potter and everything magical (one of many things Sadie and I have in common) and I have a huge passion for history. I cannot go on holiday anywhere without visiting a museum or historical site. Berlin is one of my favourite cities and I am desperate to go and visit Mayan ruins.

4. My family are my everything! I can honestly say they are my rock and I would be nowhere without them. Everything I have ever achieved I owe in part to them.

5. In my spare time I love to volunteer for charities. I regularly do badger sett surveys with the Badger Trust and take part in my local Toad Patrol. I have also helped out at events like Battersea's Muddy Dog challenge, raised money for Cancer Research and climbed Scafell Pike for a mental health facility for men.

6. I LOVE to travel but I HATE flying! The actual travelling part I hate so all things considered I have been lucky to see some lovely places ❤

So over the past few weeks we have had lots of new followers and I thought I would take a few posts to introduce ourselves to everyone with 6 quick key facts about the business, Sadie, Olivia, and the Birds.

So todays post is about Sadie the business Owner

1 - Growing up I knew I wanted a practical job working with the environment, so I went to BCA and then to Seale Hayne Uni to study Rural Resource Management. I have completed conservation volunteering in America, Iceland and Africa where I have also done some amazing things like sky diving, ice climbing, lion walking and working at the bottom of the Grand Canyon!

2 - The day I moved from Shropshire to Berkshire with my 5 birds, I was also trying to save my best friend who was doing an unsupported trip across the Patagonian ice cap and her tent had been destroyed in a storm and needed rescuing asap (like life and death). So I had to move myself, the birds, their aviaries all whilst trying to contact anyone in South America to organise rescue helicopters!! My family didn’t believe me until it came out in main stream press!!

3 - My AMAZING and wonderful younger sister is actually petrified of flapping birds, and my mum has never flown a bird (I think she is secretly scared too but doesn’t want to admit it!!)

4 - If I was ever on Mastermind, and birds couldn’t be my specialised subject then I would have to pick Harry Potter, the Inheritance Cycle, and Supernatural (the TV programme). I dont think you can answer questions on eating chocolate.

5 - Feathers and Fur Falconry is my 3rd business, I have also started and ran a lingerie shop called Bellus (sold when I got divorced), and another falconry business called Hawks on Walks which I sold when I moved from Shropshire.

6 - 3 things I couldn’t be without everyday- my dogs, my Jamie and my business xxxxxx

So I hope you have enjoyed this post, if you have any questions about us then please do pop them in the comments. The next post is all about the amazing Olivia !!!
Did you know this about our business???? So over Did you know this about our business????

So over the past few weeks we have had lots of new followers and I thought I would take a few posts to introduce ourselves to everyone with 5 quick key facts about the business, Sadie, Olivia, and the Birds.

So the first is the Business - Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre.

1 - Ladds Garden Village was just suppose to be somewhere to keep my 5 birds (3 Harris Hawks, a EEO and a Barn owl) when I moved down from Shropshire. I didn’t really have plans to have a centre for people to visit until the landlord ask if we could open the gate for the public to see the birds. I actually used to work at Ladds when I was just 15 years old!

2 - Feathers and Fur Falconry was originally based around having both birds and animals, however the cost of the animals vastly exceeded the birds and I made the decision to focus on the birds.

3 - For the first 8 years of the business, it was run solely by me, with the help of volunteers and a part time falconer. 2 years ago I took on my first full time member of staff - Olivia, and it was the best decision I made.

4 - Feathers and Fur Falconry has appeared on the Sunday Brunch programme, BBC News, Something Special with Justin and Mr Tumble, been on the cover of the Daily Mail weekend magazine, our birds have featured in the Sunday Times - Style magazine, Kerrang! magazine, have featured on the wonderful Cherry Wallis you tube channel, met the then Prime Minister Teresa May and have talked on BBC Berkshire radio many times (including Christmas Day in 2020!!)

5 - Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre has its own You Tube channel and our most popular video has currently 938K views!!!!!

So I hope you have enjoyed this post, if you have any questions about us then please do pop them in the comments. The next post is all about me - Sadie !!!
