Fancy feeling like Harry Potter for the day? Absolutely in love with owls? Then the Educational Owl Hour is the perfect session for you. Specially aimed at those aged between 6 and 10 years the Owl Hour is a wonderfully unique fun educational session. Owls have throughout history held a magical wing over man, whether it be in the relationship between Goddess and Owl or in the relationship with magic. Feathers and Fur wants to take this mystical world and open it up to show all. Can an Owl really turn its head all the way around? How does it fly so silently? What makes them such a deadly and efficient hunter? Can they really deliver the post?
What’s involved?
The 1-hour sessions are held on-site in our teaching area. Group sizes are kept to a maximum of six children with just 1 adult spectator per child, there is no charge for the adult spectator. After introductions to the falconer and a few rules and general house keeping, its down to work learning about British Owls, their habitats, diet and status in the UK. As a group you look at feathers and hunting abilities and then its hands on to dissect owl pellets and see what was for dinner!! Finally its everyone favourite part the chance to handle and pose for photos with one of our Owl team, perhaps the graceful Barn Owl or characterful Little Owl. Spectators can take photos throughout the session of their child and share in the magic of Owls.
Once the session finishes you are welcome to stay on and see the other birds at the centre including our Peregrine Falcon and even the Raven!
When do the Educational Owl Hours take place?
These sessions are held on specific dates shown below or above in the drop down. Vouchers are valid for a year and sessions are held in school holidays. Please email prior to purchase to check availability if looking for a specific date as we may be able to offer dates further in advance of the ones shown above.

Receiving your voucher
Vouchers are available as gifts and are currently sent as email vouchers. The vouchers have a 1 year validity allowing the recipient to book a date when they are ready.
If you would like to book an Educational Owl Hour for a group of children, for instance as an alternative Birthday Party please call or email to discuss numbers and availability.
Things to know
Number of people per session – A maximum of 6 children per group plus 1 spectator per voucher.

What to wear – Long sleeves are required when handling the birds, because the session takes place in our centre regally out door clothes are fine but we recommend not your best ones as we are playing with pellets and owls do poo!
Weather – Sessions will go ahead even in poor weather as we have a class room we can use.
Spectators -1 adult is required to stay with the child throughout the session, they are included in the cost. Sorry but additional spectators are not allowed due to limited space in our classroom.
